Supervision of Local Government
The Bureau oversees and coordinates the activities of all 23 Local Government Councils in Benue State, ensuring effective governance, service delivery, and implementation of state policies at the grassroots level.
Chieftaincy Affairs Administration
It manages the appointment and recognition of traditional rulers, preserves cultural heritage, and addresses chieftaincy matters such as disputes and succession issues.
Comflict Resolution and Peace Building
The Bureau promotes community development, monitors local government projects and resources, and strengthens capacity for efficient grassroots governance.
About the Bureau
The Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA), Benue State, was established to oversee the administration and operations of the 23 local government councils, facilitate the appointment and recognition of traditional rulers, implement policies and programmes to enhance rural community development, as well as monitor and evaluate the performance of local government councils.
Prior to now, the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA)
was called the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. .

To provide effective supervision, coordination, and support to the 23 Local Government Councils in Benue State. To ensure transparency, accountability, and due process in grassroots administration. To strengthen local governance systems, promote community development, and safeguard chieftaincy affairs. To build staff capacity through innovation and ICT while promoting strategic partnerships for sustainable local development.
